Description	:	Mary Starr was born in Montgomery County, Iowa, August 4, 1875 and went to her home in heaven, June 27, 1900. She united with the Presbyterian Church of Nodaway in her eighteenth year. She moved with her father's family from Montgomery to a farm adjoining Nodaway in 1892 and lived there until the present year when she went with her father to a home in Nodaway. She... Read More	Mary Starr was born in Montgomery County, Iowa, August 4, 1875 and went to her home in heaven, June 27, 1900. She united with the Presbyterian Church of Nodaway in her eighteenth year. She moved with her father's family from Montgomery to a farm adjoining Nodaway in 1892 and lived there until the present year when she went with her father to a home in Nodaway. She attended school in Villisca three years and also finished the normal school course at Corning. She taught in the Adams County Schools and also at Nodaway very successfully for about six years. She attended the State Normal at Cedar Falls from September until December 1899, when coming home to spend Christmas, her fiends noticed her failing health and persuaded her to stay at home and rest for a time. She went to Burlington Junction Springs in April but came home in about a month resigned to the fact that she would never be any better. Had she lived and regained her health she would have taught in the primary schools as she thought more good could be accomplished for humanity and for God through the proper teaching of the children than any other way. She was suddenly taken very ill Monday evening, June 25, and everything was done for her that physicians could suggest or that her fiends could do but with all their efforts she gradually grew worse until she passed away on Wednesday morning, 12:15 a.m. She was the youngest child of Adam Starr and leaves her father, a sister and two brothers with many other relatives and friends to sadly miss her and grieve over their loss. She knew she was going to die and said it was well. The funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. Rowley of Brooks, her former pastor, and Rev. Driver, you was her pastor at the time of her death. The singing was furnished by a male quartet's and also the choir whom she had loved to sing with. The white casket in which all that was left of Mary reposed, was covered with beautiful flowers and all around the room were beautiful designs brought by loving friends. Thursday afternoon, as it was nearing sunset, her body was laid to rest in a grave made as beautiful as sympathizing friends could make it. The pall bearers were six young ladies and six young men, friends of Mary and as they carried her form gently to the tomb, their hearts were filled with sadness and there was also a feeling of quiet joy that Mary was safe in the arms of Jesus. To our friends and neighbors, We wish in this small way to express to you our thanks for your thoughtful kindness and loving deeds of many to us whom we were sore distressed and our hearts were almost broken. Only a few months before you came with your offers of help and comforting words on a similar occasion and we feel under a double debt of gratitude to you. May the Lord bless you and send to you such loving, sympathizing friends as He did to us and as long as we shall live we will never forget you.
