Mrs. Shea suffered a shock a week ago and gradually failed. “Mrs. Shea was born in Ballingary, County Limerick, Ireland, the daughter of Cornelius Sullivan and Mary Lynch Sullivan. She came to this city in 1870 and was united in marriage with Michael Shea on November 27, 1872 [actually Nov. 26, 1873], in St. Mary’s church by the Rev. Dennis Desmond.... She came to this city in 1870 and was united in marriage with Michael Shea on November 27, 1872 [actually Nov. 26, 1873], in St. Mary’s church by the Rev. Dennis Desmond. Mr. Shea died on April 16, 1917. “Mrs. Shea is survived by six children, John J., Patrick F., Michael L., Mary E., Katherine A., and Annie T. Shea. She also leaves one grandson, John J. Shea, Jr., and a sister, Mrs. Maurice Histon, who lives in Ireland.” Her funeral notice in the Norwich Bulletin on May 9, 1917 reads: Mrs. Michael Shea – The funeral of Mary, widow of Michael Shea, took place Tuesday morning from her late home, 472 Boswell avenue, with a large number of relatives and friends in attendance. At the services in St. Mary’s church, Rev. W. H. Kennedy officiated. Miss L. C. Boudreau presided at the organ. The bearers were Patrick and William J. Kirby, Dennis and Myles E. Sullivan, Thomas Enright and John Foley. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery, where Rev. Fr. Kennedy read a committal service at the grave. Undertakers Shea & Burke had charge of the funeral arrangements.
