Read More	Michael's obituary, published in the Norwich Evening Record (evening edition of the Norwich Bulletin) on April 16, reads: "In his home at 472 Boswell avenue this morning at 4:15 o'clock, the long, helpful life of Michael Shea came to a close after an illness of eight weeks, and those near and dear to him were at his bedside. "Mr. Shea, who is the last of his immediate family, was born in Ireland on Feb. 3, 1842, the son of James and Catherine Moran Shea. His father died when he was a boy and he came to Greeneville with his mother and a sister in 1868 and made the place his home since. He became an expert sharpener of tools used in blasting and stone work and he was also an adept at the handling of dynamite. He had charge of the blasting when the Shannon building was built and on other large contracts. Mr. Shea had been employed by the late Henry and Frank B. Durfey and Archibald Torrance and other contractors and always gave perfect satisfaction. He had always enjoyed good health and was able to work until his last illness and that was caused by heart trouble. "In St. Mary's church on Nov. 27, 1872 [actually Nov. 26, 1873], Mr. Shea was married to Miss Mary Sullivan by Rev. Dennis Desmond and she survives her husband with six children: John J. Shea, who keeps the newsroom in the Chapman block, Patrick F. Shea, a letter carrier, Michael L. Shea, a boss bricklayer, and Misses Mary E., Catherine A. and Annie T. Shea who reside at home. There is one grandson, John J. Shea, Jr. "The large list of people who knew Mr. Shea well deemed it ever a delight to greet him and he met his friends with a smile and was jovial and gracious in manner and an interesting talker. He spoke evil of no man and found pleasure in helping others less favored than himself. In his home his character was best reflected and his model life was closely followed by his children and they were a great comfort to their father in the declining years of his long career. Mr. Shea was a loyal and kindly husband and his married life was ideal. His religious faith was such that he faced the future with confidence as he fought the battle of life to the best that was within him. His passing takes from this community a personality that left an impress of good wherever his lot was cast." His funeral notice in the Norwich Bulletin on April 19, 1917 reads: “Michael Shea – The funeral of Michael Shea was held from his late home on Boswell avenue Tuesday morning with a large number of relatives and friends in attendance. At the services in St. Mary’s church, Rev. J. H. Fitzmaurice officiated and at the close of the mass Mrs. T. J. Donovan rendered two hymns. Miss L. C. Dondreau was the organist. The bearers were Patrick Kirby, Michael Dewire, C. J. Downes, Jeremiah Shea, Patrick Foley and Charles J. Mullaney. Burial was in the family lot in the St. Mary’s cemetery. Undertakers Shea & Burke had charge of the funeral arrangements.”
