Bowman, 89, of Plattsmouth, who died March 1 at St. Joseph Hospital, Omaha, after a long illness. The Rev. John H. Middents officiated. Music was by Mrs. Edward Wehrbein and Mrs. George Jacobs. Pall bearers were Albert Young, Arthur McClean, Lloyd Fitch, Neil Lancaster, Elmer Haffke, and Fred Howland. Flower bearers were Verla Saltler, and Leone Schmidtmann. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth. Max H. Bowman was born July 11, 1892 at Hastings, Iowa, the adopted son of William E. and Candice Farr Bowman. (Max Harry Bowman and his brother, John Wilmot Bowman, were later adopted by their mother's parents.) On May 17, 1916, Max and Velma Varie Smith were married at Fairbury. The couple moved to Mahaska, Kansas and later moving to Auburn in 1922 and later the same year to Plattsmouth. In Plattsmouth, Mr. Bowman worked for the Burlington Railroad shops until 1932, when he opened his own barbershop. In 1940, he was employed at Martin Bomber plant and in 1946 he returned to the BREX shops, Plattsmouth, working there until his retirement in 1962. Mr. Bowman was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and First United Presbyterian Church, Plattsmouth. He is survived by three sons, Doran and Dale, both of Plattsmouth and Donald of Bellevue; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife who died in 1980 and a daughter, Deloma, who died in 1933. Max along with his brother John Wilmont and sister Candace Marie, were taken in by Carrie's parents sometime after 1900. Mr. Bernard in 1903 (4.) John Henry Williams on May 13, 1897 in Villisca, Iowa for a second time (5.) David Guy McMillen on December 20, 1905 in Red Oak, Iowa (6.) John Wesley Culp in 1924 in Villisca, Iowa. ****** Max married Vera V. Smith on May 17, 1916 in Beatrice, Nebraska. Max and Vera are the parents of four children: ~Doran Von b. November 21, 1917 d.
