Description	:	Maxine Louise (Martens) Welch died on Thursday, April 14, 1994, at Missouri Valley Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Maxine was born May 24, 1918, in Persia, Iowa to Henry and Blanche (Zinn) Martens. She graduated from Persia High School with eleven classmates in 1935. She attended Dana College at Blair, Nebraska, and later Simpson College. She received her teaching degree in 1940 and taught at the Pleasant Ridge Country School near Persia, Iowa. Read More	Maxine Louise (Martens) Welch died on Thursday, April 14, 1994, at Missouri Valley Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Maxine was born May 24, 1918, in Persia, Iowa to Henry and Blanche (Zinn) Martens. She graduated from Persia High School with eleven classmates in 1935. She attended Dana College at Blair, Nebraska, and later Simpson College. She received her teaching degree in 1940 and taught at the Pleasant Ridge Country School near Persia, Iowa. She eloped with and married William Hugh Welch of Logan, Iowa on Thursday, August 28, 1941 in York, Nebraska, prior to William leaving for Military Duty in World War II. Upon returning from the Service in 1946, they made their home in Logan, Iowa where William entered the practice of law with his father. Together they raised three children; son, William Henry; daughters, Jeri Anne and Mary Lou. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and St. Anne's Altar Society. Maxine was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, sewing, knitting, ceramics, playing the organ, and playing cards with friends and grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Bill of Logan, IA, daughters, Jeri Hopkins of Plattsmouth, NE, and Mary Lou Plummer and husband Terry of Persia, IA; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Blanche Martens; husband, William Hugh Welch; sister, Evelyn Diggle and grandson, Christopher Plummer. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 1994, at her home in Logan, where she was lying in repose. A mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 1994, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Logan, Iowa. Officiating Clergy was Father Frank Cordaro. Final Resting Place: Valley View Cemetery, Persia, Iowa. Grandson: Christopher Dean Plummer (1979-1979)
