The obituary for his wife, Ruby, had stated that he had died on Dec. 16, 1949, which may have been information in error supplied by the funeral home to the newspaper. ------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Saturday Dec. 17, 1949 Pg. 6 Col. 1 DIES FRIDAY AT OTTUMWA Death came last night to Merl Nixon, 56, former employee at the Iowa Malleable Iron company, who passed away at Sunnyslope in Ottumwa where he had been a patient for two years. His death came at 11:00 p.m. Last rites will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. E. A. Piper in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Merl Nixon was born December 26, 1893, in Iowa, the son of the late Alonzo and Alice Klice (sic. Klise) Nixon. He was united in marriage on December 28, 1914, at Ottumwa, Iowa, to Ruby Hull who survives. Nixon had been an employee at the Malleable for 25 years before ill health forced him to retire a few years ago. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children, all of Fairfield: Ralph, George and Mrs. Beulah Campbell. Five grandchildren also survive.
