Ferris who was born in Potsdam, New York, March 17th, 1853, came with his parents when he was eight years of age to Iowa and resided there until 25 years of age. Moylan of Bayard, Mrs. J.W. Anderson of Dawson, sisters and Jno. Moylan, brother-in-law, who also accompanied the remains from Hot Springs for interment at Willow Cemetery, Bayard. The funeral with Requiem High Mass took place at St. Patrick's Church in Bayard, January 19, 1936. It was a military funeral with Messrs. E. J. Rogers, color bearer; Chas. Miles and Elmer Rhodes, color guards; Firing squad, A McGee, E. Remele, E. Stofer, G. Ault, G. Hidlebaugh, in charge of H. I. Pulver, and Austin Curtis sounded taps. The chief mourners were Mrs. M. Courtney, sister; Mrs, J.W. Anderson, sister; John Ferris and J. D. Ferris, brothers; John Moylan and John Anderson, brother-in-laws; J. F. Ferris, sister-in-law; Rev. Joseph Moylan, SJ., nephew; Sister Mary Craisia, SMM, niece, besides twelve other nephews and nieces. The Pall-Bearers were the Messers L.. Kennedy, Jos. Murrane, E. Manville, M. L. Strauser, D. McKeon and H. Howe. The funeral Mass was sung and the funeral services at the grave conducted by Dather Hegerty. In the Choir were the following relatives, Mr. John Carraher, Mrs. Arthur Molan and son John, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moylan. The attendance of the general public showed the high esteem in which the deceased was held, both at Hot Springs, South Dakota, and at Bayard.
