Description	:	Mildred Hawkins Strain, age 84, was born June 19, 1921 in McNairy County the eldest child of James Carl and Gracie Holland Hawkins. She passed away peacefully in her home on September 11, 2005. She was raised in the Lawton and Forty-Forks communities and attended local schools graduating from Selmer High School in 1942. She passed away peacefully in her home on September 11, 2005. She was raised in the Lawton and Forty-Forks communities and attended local schools graduating from Selmer High School in 1942. A pioneer for women in the workforce she began her career working for U.S. Army depot in Memphis TN. There she met her true love Milton E. Strain. Following a transfer to San Antonio TX there they married on April 23 1944. Mr. and Mrs. Strain settled in the Malesus community in 1953. Mrs. Strain did custom upholstery for many years before opening United Trophy Co. which she operated until her retirement in February 1987. She remained active doing custom sewing and quilting until her recent illness. A respected member of Malesus Baptist Church Mrs. Strain enjoyed attending the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Gracie Hawkins and a brother Rayburn Hawkins all of Dyersburg TN and her husband Milton Strain in December 2001. She is survived by two sons Robert Strain and wife Connie and Milton Strain Jr. and wife Cherrie; four grandchildren Robert Strain Jr. and wife Christie Alicia Strain Milton Strain III and fianc?e Erin Robertson and Teresa Strain; and one great grandchild Destyni Strain all of Medon TN. She is also survived by a brother Talmadge Hawkins and wife Annette of Dyersburg TN; two sisters Artie Pack of Malesus TN and Irene Johnson of Thomaston GA. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday September 13, 2005 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home and burial will follow in the Sweet Lips Cemetery in Chester County with Rev. Charlie Crouthers officiating. Family will receive visitors from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday Evening. Pallbearers to serve are David Strain Keith Hawkins Ricky Hawkins Jackie Smith Earl Cox and Mike Smith.
