Description	:	Mildred I. Ringer, 95, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville, Ohio. Mildred was born on July 20, 1914 in Morrow County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Ellis and Sarah (Mitchell) Peoples. She graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1932. She attended Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University. Mildred was born on July 20, 1914 in Morrow County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Ellis and Sarah (Mitchell) Peoples. She graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1932. She attended Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University. She received a B.S. degree in Education from Defiance College in 1960. She began her teaching career in Morrow County Ohio at the one room Dewey Rural School and the Johnsville Elementery School. On June 6, 1939 she was united in marriage to Harold E. Ringer. She continued to teach substituting while her husband was superintendent of the Pioneer School. She taught first grade and kindergarten in the Hicksville Schools for 29 years, retiring in 1977. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hicksville, where she used her teaching gift in Sunday School, youth group and youth camp. After her retirement she taught Good News Club in Antwerp, Ohio. Mrs. Ringer belonged to the Ohio, National and Retired Teachers Associations and was a charter member and past president of the American Association of University Women. She helped establish kindergartens in Defiance, Williams and Paulding Counties. She was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, a charter member and past president of the LeFleur de Terre Garden Club and past president of the Acme Literary Club. She was a 4H advisor for 11 years. She was a member of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Friends of the Library, and the Red Hat Society of Hicksville. She enjoyed flower arranging, quilting, oil painting, and especially writing. She belonged to the Northwest Ohio Christian Writer’s Club and had articles and poems published in several magazines and papers. From 1992 until her 95th birthday in July of 2009 she wrote a weekly column for the local News Tribune, “Gems from Our Treasure Chest.” A book of her poems was published in 2006, “Seasons of Life,” and the story of her life, “He Leadeth Me,” in 2008. Surviving Mildred are two daughters, Mrs. John (Joyce) Birkhold of Antwerp, Ohio and Mrs. Norman (Judy) Roehrs of Findlay, Ohio. Six grandchildren survive: Keith (Jenny) Birkhold of Auburn, IN, Craig (Patricia) Birkhold of Napoleon OH, Charlene (Carlton) Clifton of Huston, TX, Darlene (Scott) Birk of St. Charles, MO, Jonathan (Stacy) Roehrs, Waynesville, OH and Christine (Jeffery) Krupp, Vermilion, OH. Nineteen great-grandchildren survive: Cole, Olivia, Ivy, Grace and Aiden Birkhold of Auburn, IN; Andrew, Claire, Alex and Emily Birkhold of Napoleon, OH; Joshua and Rachel Clifton of Houston, TX; Ryan and Brianna Birk of St. Charles, MO; Sarah, Jason, Jeremy and Anna Roehrs of Waynesville, OH; and Tabitha and Gwen Krupp of Vermilion, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold R. Ringer, her parents, and sisters Anna Garverick and Bernice Imhoff. Funeral services for Mildred will be Tuesday at 11:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hicksville, Pastor Ric Beals will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00-8:00 at Smith & Brown Funeral Home in Hicksville with an Eastern Star Service at 8:00. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Farmer Cemetery, Farmer, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Gideon’s International or the Hicksville Beautification Committee.
