Description	:	Millard Hampton Dodd, 76, of Nellysford, was killed instantly last night when struck by an automobile on Route 151 at Nellysford. Dr. Russell Smith, acting coroner for Nelson County, viewed the body at the scene and pronounced death was instant. He placed the time of death at 8:30. State Trooper C. H. Reynolds reported today that the driver of the automobile which struck Mr. Dodd was Joe Alex Dillard , of Bryant. Mr. Dodd was born Aug. 24, 1876, in Beech Grove, son of the late George Washington and Matilda Demastus Dodd. He had been a carpenter for most of his life and owned and operated a store at Nellysford. He was a member of the Beech Grove Christian Church. Mr. Dodd was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie May Dodd on April 6, 1951. The survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Matilda Williams Thompson, Nellysford; one son, Claude N. Dodd, Faber; one foster son, Mark Dodd, Nellysford; one brother, Eddie S. Dodd and one sister, Mrs. Nannie Campbell, both of Roseland. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home until the hour of service. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Beech Grove Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Stevens. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bosby Small, Harman Small, Rudolph Small, Pete Falls, Joe Mawyer, Melvin Dodd, Shelby Fitzgerald and Lonnie Fitzgerald. Honorary bearers will be Herman Fitzgerald, Palmer Fitzgerald, Arthur Ewing, Clinie Fitzgerald, B. Fitzgerald and C. L. Thompson. Waynesboro News Virginian-date of paper: October 28, 1952
