CHAS. UTESCH Had Been Resident Of Plymouth County For Nearly Fifty Years Mrs. Minnie L. Utesch (nee Jans) was born at Lowden, Cedar County, Iowa, on March 19, 1881, the daughter of Peter and Wilhelmina (nee Albert) Jans. She was baptized at Lowden on October 30, 1881, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in St. John’s church, Le Mars, April 7, 1895. At an early age she came with her parents to Plymouth County, Iowa, settling near Merrill. She attended the Merrill public school during her early years. She was united in marriage with Charles E. Utesch on September 10, 1898. Mr. and Mrs. Utesch spent approximately fifty years on various farms in Plymouth County. As a faithful wife and mother, she sought diligently to fill her station in life. As helpmeet to her husband, as a self-sacrificing mother, the welfare of home and family were ever near her heart. In 1948 she came with her husband to Akron to take up residence. She was a faithful member of the Johnson Township Lutheran Church for many years. When the family moved to Akron she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was faithful member up to the time of her death. Mrs. Utesch had been failing in health for some time, but she was not one to complain. Her condition became serious and she was taken to the Akron Hospital. Three or four weeks before the final summons came, on Saturday morning, June 9, 1951, she had been returned to her home. She attained the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 22 days. Thus comes to a close a life well spent, a life consecrated to her husband and family, and to her Lord and His church. Left to mourn her departure are: Her husband Chares; two sons, Frank, of Merrill, and Elmer, of Akron; one daughter, Leona (Mrs. Howard Witt), of Hawarden; six grandchildren, and four brothers, Charles, Frank, August, and Ed. Jans, besides a host of friends. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were held in Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon of last week, conducted by Rev. J. A. Pannkuk. Mabel Long and Joan Breithbarth san “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Abide With Me.” Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Akron Register Tribune Thursday, June 21, 1951 Akron, Iowa
