Instead, it turns out that he was the son of Roy's brother James William "Bill" Metcalf (# 194559465) and his wife Violet Marie Wright Metcalf (# 194559511). It is likely that since Roy died in 1947 and had a burial plot and family connections to Fairfield, Iowa, that the infant Wesley Earl Metcalf was then buried in that same plot in 1949. Cemetery records did not make this distinction of parents clear and Roy and Myrtle Metcalf were mis-attributed in later Evergreen burial listings as being the parents of Wesley Earl Metcalf. ------------------------------- Fairfield Ledger September 15, 1980 Mrytle Metcalf rites Thursday ELDON - Myrtle E. Metcalf, 74, of Eldon died at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Burlington Medical Center in Burlington. The daughter of James and Bessie Oliver Tweedy, she was born Mar. 26, 1908 near Libertyville. On April 6, 1932 she married Roy D. Metcalf in Fairfield. The lived in Elmwood,, Ill., until his death in 1947. She later lived in Mt. Pleasant, where she was employed at the Mental Health Institute, and in Burlington before moving to Eldon in 1978. Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Powell of Burlington; two granddaughters; a brother, Ernest Tweedy of Des Moines; and a sister, Velma Brazille of Tulsa, Okla. She attended Libertyville Church of the Brethren. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday and memorials to the Dr. B.J. Ajaikumar Cancer Center, Burlington Medical Center, may be left at the funeral home.
