LaVerne was born October 12, 1931, to John Blake Spencer and Lanta Viola Richardson Spencer on Haw Orchard Mountain. LaVerne was born October 12, 1931, to John Blake Spencer and Lanta Viola Richardson Spencer on Haw Orchard Mountain. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Charles March Kiser of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, two daughters, Rachel Kiser Fuller of Marion, Elizabeth Kiser Brown, and husband Sherman Brown of Elk Creek, and one son, Charles William Kiser and wife Melissa of Salem, Virginia. Grandchildren include Mary Alexandra Fuller and fiancé Will Phetterplace of Newport, NC; Blake Brown of Elk Creek, Virginia; Will Kiser of Salem; Tyler Brown and wife Stephanie of Elk Creek; and Shannon Brown and wife Naomi of Grafenwoehr, Germany. Four great-grandchildren also survive. Surviving siblings are her sister, June Ella Phipps and husband Dale Phipps of Independence, and brother Sherrill Worth Spencer also of Independence. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm in the Haw Orchard Cemetery on Saturday, November 3, Paul Sturgill will officiate.
