Howlett and his bride-to-be Clara G. Booker (the register has entries for names of parents). It was entered as "Wissenance", also interpreted as "Wissemance". However, the correct spelling should have been entered as "Whisenand". Nancy Jane was a daughter of William S. Whisenand and Bidda Rebecca Lindsay Whisenand. The family lived in Chariton, Lucas county, Iowa as of the 1870 U.S. Federal census. The parents relocated later to Ottawa, Franklin county, Kansas, where they are buried. They attended the 1890 wedding of Nancy's son Frank, and were listed in one of the wedding stories as being "Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Whisenand, from Ottawa, Kansas", which is how their memorials were found. Nancy was the wife of Thomas R. Howlett, married October 7, 1867 in Franklin county, Kansas, per Kansas marriage records. Note: they are found in the 1900 U.S. Federal census for Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa as being married for 31 years, parents of one child (sic. Frank), so some rounding of the marriage years took place on that census report. Mother of Frank R. Howlett. She was living at his home in Argentine Station, Kansas (sic. not found in location entries on FindAGrave; may be a defunct town now) at the time of her death. Note: Nancy's death date has been found listed in some sources as being on January 19, 1924 but that was/is in error, since the initial death notice/obituary was published on January 18, 1924 and noted that she died in Kansas the day before, which would be January 17, 1924. Because she died in Kansas there is, obviously, no Iowa death record to use for clarifiation of her maiden name, etc.
