Read More	Missouri Valley Times (Missouri Valley, IA) Thursday, July 26, 1900 p. 7 EDITOR TIMES: --- As we, the undersigned were present at the drowning of young Ferguson, Saturday night, and as the information given to the papers was incorrect, we wish to correct the report in a few particulars. Young Ferguson was drowned in water at least six feet deep, and not shallow as reported. When we commenced working in the lake we cautioned all the boys in the party who were unable to swim to remain on the bank, and thinking they would do so we gave the question no further thought, until we were called by young Ferguson's cry for help. Both of us ran to the place where the two boys were struggling in the water; young Ferguson, who was unable to swim, and another member of the party who was trying to save him. We entered the water and succeeded in rescuing the boy who was trying to save him, but Ferguson was so scared and frightened he seemed to lose his head and every time we reached for him he fought and struggled. Finally he grabbed one of us around the neck and pulled him under the water. This was repeated several times, until he sank never to come up again. The last time he came to the surface of the water he was unconcious, making no move of any kind, but before we could reach him he sank again. Owing to the depth of the water, it was twenty minutes before we recovered the body. The small scratches visible on the dead boy's face were not caused by blows struck while in the water, but probably came there while we were working over the body after bringing it from the water. B.
