OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, January 19, 1937 OSCAR DEWEY JESSIP Funeral services for Oscar Dewey Jessip, who died on Tuesday afternoon, January 12, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home in Chariton on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, and the body was taken to Atchison, Kans., Friday morning where a brief funeral service was held and burial took place. Mrs. Jessip and children and brother, Nelson Jessip, accompanied the body to Atchison. Oscar Dewey Jessip, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jessip, was born at Storm Lake, Iowa, on September 23, 1899. He was united in marriage to Carrie Wills, of Muscotah, Kans., at Dakota City, Iowa, on June 7, 1921. About fifteen years ago he located on a farm south of Chariton and had since lived in that vicinity. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jessip, all of whom are living. They are Donald, Leo, Johnnie, Robert, Wanda and Lola. Mr. Jessip met death on Tuesday afternoon while hauling wood to his home on a bob sled. The sled apparently skidded to the side of the road and tipped, throwing Mr. Jessip into a ditch where he was pinned beneath the wood. When rescuers lifted the wood from his body he was found dead. Mr. Jessip was a kind and devoted husband and father, a dutiful son and brother, a splendid neighbor, a good citizen, and will be greatly missed in his home and community. Surviving him besides his wife and six children are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jessip, four brothers and two sisters, Perry Jessip and James Jessip of Atchison, Kans.; Arthur Jessip of Sioux City, Iowa; Nelson Jessip of Chariton; Mrs. Wm. Boland and Mrs. Jack Mansfield, both of South Sioux City, Nebr. Out of town relatives attending the funeral services were J. R. Wills and three sons, Leroy, Oliver and Harold, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mansfield, South Sioux City, Nebr.
