At the time Paul was born his mother was 40 years old and his father 58. Paul was unique among his siblings in that he did not have a middle name (his first name was a reference to the Biblical Paul). He was also the only Ketterman sibling to stay in Pittsburg his entire adult life. Paul was tall, strong, and wiry, and he played lineman on the Pittsburg High Football team. In fact, he may have been the only Ketterman sibling to graduate in the traditional manner. After high school, Paul took a series of carpentry and mining jobs. In 1929 Paul married a woman named Hazel M Higgins who was expecting another man's baby. The child was born about 1930 and named Wilma Ketterman. The family apparently lived in a tiny cottage just steps from Paul's parents' house. Paul had always been close to his younger brother Woody, but after their older brothers Marcus and John Robert died, the two men became even closer. In the 1920s and 1930s, Paul and Woody shared in a smattering of business ventures, including rental properties and a small coal mine outside of town. None of the ventures were particularly successful. In the late 1930s, Paul traveled to Washington, DC to see Woody commissioned as an officer in the US Army, and even in the 1960s Paul served as a witness when Woody married. As circumstances changed, however, Paul was able to upgrade his family's living quarters and the family moved. Living on the same block was a young neighbor woman, Minerva Lough. Minerva was married with two boys, but she was still young and full of life. On June 18, 1947, Paul and Minerva traveled to Ft. Scott to get married; he was 37 years old and she was 29. It was five yeas before the couple's first child, Jo Ann, was born. She arrived on January 6, 1952, and her brother John, followed on July 11, 1955. (If Paul's father had still been alive, he would have been 103 when his last grandchild was born.) For many Years Paul worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad, retiring in 1962 due to ill health. HE had a temper, but was not abusive in the way his father had been. He enjoyed outdoor sports, including hunting, and was known for his skilled carpentry work. He was also a member of several fraternal organizations, including the Pittsburg Lodge (past master), Masons, Mirza Shrine, and Eastern Star. In late November 1977, Paul went to the hospital to have his legs re-veined. He suffered a heart attack and died November 27th. The funeral was two days later and Paul was buried in the family plot at Highland Park. At this writing (Nov. 2008) Paul's widow Minerva is still living in Pittsburg, Kansas.
