Dry, 96, of Rogers, Ark., died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Heritage Park in Rogers. He was born Aug. 21, 1910, in Chester, Neb., to William Dry and Mae Harris Dry. He graduated from Chester High School in 1928 and attended Cotner College in Lincoln, Neb. During the Depression, he went to the West Coast, where he got a job on passenger ships crossing the Pacific and going around the world. He made four trips around the world. Transferring to Standard Oil, he was assigned to oil tankers. During World War II, he advanced to captain and had his own ships. He led convoys carrying flight fuel to the South Pacific. He married Mildred Beamer on June 2, 1946, in Pawnee City, Neb. For 20 years, he gave lecture programs to schools, churches and civic organizations around the United States based on his travels at sea. In 1965, he came home to Beatrice, Neb., and worked for 10 years as a salesman for AAA in southeastern Nebraska. In 1982, he and his wife moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where he volunteered for the Recycling Center for many years. He was a charter member of the Presbyterian Church in Bella Vista and a 50-year member of the Masons. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Dry; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Betz and Stewart Betz of Bentonville, Ark.; two grandsons, C.J. Betz of Lincoln, Neb., and U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Justin Betz, stationed in Okinawa, Japan; and two great-granddaughters, Brianna Betz and Allison Betz, both of Lincoln, Neb. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715. Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville, Ark.
