(Source: Thayer County, NE Marriage Records) ==================== William Dry, youngest of a family of seven children of Daniel and Rebecca Mull Dry, was born in Allendale, Worth County, Mo., Aug. 15, 1882. He died Sept. 5, 1964 at the age of 82 years and 20 days. He was married to May Harris March 7, 1906. She passed away April 13, 1923. He married Ella Crouse November 24, 1926, who passed away Dec. 11, 1933. He then married Pearl Boyce, Sept. 3, 1934. Mr. Dry came to this community March 8, 1884, when he was two years old and this has been his home for the past eighty years. He attended the Chester Public Schools, first the westside (sic) grade School, and graduated from the Chester High School in 1902, and one year later he finished the prescribed course of the Lincoln Business College. He became a member of the Church of Christ December 16, 1906, of which he was a faithful member for 58 years. He filled the offices of Deacon, Elder, Sunday School superintendent, Chairman of the official Board, and Bible School teacher. In 1961 he was awarded a certificate of Honorable Recognition for his many years of service to the church. He was serving as assistant teacher for the men's class at the time of his death. He was a charter member of the Chester Community Club, which he and seven others met and formed during the years of World War One. It is customary for a club like this, once every so often to serve a dinner to the surrounding community of farmers in the territory, but Mr. and Mrs. Dry effectionately (sic) referred to as, "Bill and Pearl" by their friends, reversed this procedure, and each year, served a banquet to the Chester Community Club with food raised entirely on their farm. It was largely for his work with the Chester Community Club and for his service in uniting town and country in this territory that in 1954, the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben in Omaha awarded to William and Pearl Dry the Good Neighbor Citation, honoring them for deeds beyond the field of personal gain, thus exemplifying the good neighbor spirit in Nebraska. He was a member of the Chester Masonic Lodge for 43 years. In 1951 he was "Worshipful Master", of his Lodge. In the year, eleven regular meetings were held in order to take care of the work of the Lodge, and he did not miss a meeting. Two daughters, one son, three sisters, two brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; four daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Doris) Palmer of Carthage, So. Dak; Mrs. Leona Galusha of Warrenton, Ore; Mrs. Gilbert (Beryl) Husband of Santa Ana, Caif (sic); Mrs. Harrison (Fayette) Caspter of Astoria, Ore; two sons, Paul Dry of Beatrice and Jay Dry of Monte Rio, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Della Throne of Hebron; one brother, Harley Dry of Chester; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1964 at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church in Chester, conducted by Rev. Millard White. Interment in the Chester Cemetery.
