As a... Read More	Mrs. Peggy Jo "Leigh" Moss Dutton, age 77, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019, National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born August 10, 1941 in Yadkin County, North Carolina and was the oldest of six girls born to the late Everett Ronnie Moss and Josephine Wagner Moss. From Leigh's humble beginnings on a farm in East Bend, NC and being raised in High Point, NC, she was full of life, ambition and aspired to live a life where 'a rolling stone gathers no moss.' As a young girl, she played the piano, and, later in life, taught herself to play the harp. It was later in life that she changed her middle name to Leigh. A name, she thought, that would be more fitting to her up and coming lifestyle. She was artistic in interior design and style. Having her mother's sewing and artistic talent, she once made a renaissance dress (museum worthy) by hand over a 3 year period and embellished it with pearls and stones and fabrics gathered from around the world. Her favorite colors were pink, purple, and yellow. She was quick-witted and had a great sense of humor, often times dressing as cartoon characters to entertain little children or anyone who wanted a good laugh. She loved God, her family, and her country. From Andrea Bocelli to Elvis Presley, she loved listening to music; having once being kissed by Elvis, he was always her favorite.... oh, how she loved listening to Elvis. She, also, enjoyed the likes of gospel, country and loved Irish music; her favorite Irish music was by The Irish Weavers Band. Leigh was a vegetarian most of her life, and a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato was her favorite sandwich. In the mid-70s, Leigh moved to California, and with her blonde 'bombshell' look, she was often mistaken for movie star, Dyan Cannon. Traveling around the world more than once by planes and cruise ships, she often worked as a dance instructor on several cruise ships. She, also, took passage to Europe on the ocean liner, QE2 (Queen Elizabeth 2). During her world travels, she served as a missionary to several third world countries to help impoverished children. Leigh was a member of The Corvette Club of Temecula Valley, CA. And, in 2015 won 2nd place in 'Corvette Show' with her yellow 2004 corvette nicknamed, "Miss Ellie." In 2017, Leigh moved back to North Carolina to be close to the rest of her family. She was very patriotic and loved visiting The Carolina Field of Honor at Triad Park, Colfax, NC. While Leigh's favorite place in the world to visit was the Fjords of Norway, she LOVED calling North Carolina home. She later succumbed to RA and Dysphagia. Those left to cherish her memory are her two beautiful daughters, Shauna (Tony) Thompson Shaw of Temecula, CA and Kristen Thompson Jones; and her loving granddaughter, Jordan Leigh Jones of Yorba Linda, CA. Leigh was previously married to James Irl Thompson. Leigh was one of twelve children. She is survived by her four brothers, William "Bill" Moss of Greensboro, NC, Tim Moss Sr. of Jamestown, NC, Rex Moss of Kernersville, NC & Eddie (Joyce) Moss of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Jessie (Jack) Moss Freeman of Jamestown, NC, Brenda (Billy) Moss-Clifton of Angier, NC, Carol (Ronald) Moss Rhodes of Raleigh, NC and Tammy (Dennis) Moss Greenwood of Winston-Salem, NC; brother-in-law, Marvin Hiatt of Kernersville, NC; her aunt, Ola Wagner Sadler of High Point, NC and her uncle, Bobby Lovings of Archdale, NC. She is, also, survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews & many cousins; and many friends, who span from North Carolina to California to Ireland to France and many more international points. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Maurice Dutton, retired Captain with United Airlines and retired Captain with the United States Navy; first infant daughter, Tania Demetria Thompson; brothers Jackie Ray Moss and Jimmy Moss; and sister, Barbara Moss Hiatt. Many thanks to the village of people, who aided in her care after she returned to North Carolina. Funeral service for Mrs. Dutton was held on Monday April 15, 2019 at 2pm at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend, North Carolina. Interment followed at Whitaker's Chapel Cemetery in Pilot Mountain, NC.
