He and his family had been spending the day at the Dave Teasley home and after dinner the men and boys went over to the pasture a little north of the Teasley home where there were some coyote dens. They found a promising hole and began digging to find some coyote pups. As we understand the story, Ralph and Bert Joyce were doing the digging and while Dave and Elmer Teasley took their rifles to round up a rabbit, they went over a little hill and discovered one, it got up to run out and both men shot at it, as they shot, Ralph, who was just over the hill helping with the digging, raised up and one of the bullets from the rifles struck him, entering at the lower right side of the back of his head. He was rushed to the hospital at Concordia and every possible medical attention given him, but upon examination it was found the bullet had traveled around the right side of the head and was lodged about an inch over the right eye and it was only a question of time until it would result fatally. He died Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Ralph is a son of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Burnett and was one of our progressive young farmers. He had a host of friends here in this community who extend their most sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. He leaves a wife and six children. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 o'clock at the Christian Church. The Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Burnett was a member will take part in the services. Glasco Sun, May 23, 1918, page 1: Ralph Lewis Burnett was born August 26, 1885 at Wrightstown, Wisconsin, and came to Kansas with his parents in the fall of the same year. He attended the Glasco public schools and graduated from the High School with the class of 1903. In 1906 he was united in marriage to Miss Mamie Rhoda Boatwright. They moved to California in 1907, remaining there three years after which they returned to Glasco where he spent the remainder of his life on the farm. For several years he was a member of the Burnett Mercantile Co., and made friends by his happy, social spirit which was one of his outstanding characteristics. He joined the Christian Church of Glasco early in life and was a member of that Church at his death. He leaves his wife, six children, mother, father, three brothers, and seven sisters to mourn his sudden tragic death.
