Description	:	Alvin Eugene Elliott, 69, of Hiawatha, passed away Tuesday evening, January 29, 2013, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. Alvin was born September 1, 1943, in Hiawatha, the third child of William and Elsie Wende Elliott. In 1945, he moved with his family to Sabetha where he attended schools prior to graduating from Sabetha High School with the class of 1961. Read More	Alvin Eugene Elliott, 69, of Hiawatha, passed away Tuesday evening, January 29, 2013, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. Alvin was born September 1, 1943, in Hiawatha, the third child of William and Elsie Wende Elliott. In 1945, he moved with his family to Sabetha where he attended schools prior to graduating from Sabetha High School with the class of 1961. Alvin graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in 1965 prior to graduating seminary in 1969 at Berkley Baptist Divinity School. He became youth pastor at Dearborn First Baptist Church in Michigan where he was ordained. After serving the Dearborn Church, he moved to Jackson, Michigan to become senior pastor at First Baptist Church, where he served the Church 25 years before retiring in 2000. Alvin returned to Hiawatha to enjoy his retirement years near family. Alvin had a real passion for genealogy research. He would spend vacation time traveling all over the United States looking up family history. He also served on the local Friends of the Library Board. Survivors include a brother Roy (Janice) Elliott of Hiawatha; sister Elsie Mae Bullock of Topeka; three nephews: Dale Elliott, Gary Elliott, Todd Bullock; two nieces: Janet Kincaid, and Penny Skinner; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services are planned for 2:30 Monday, February 4, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Reverend Randy Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon until 7 Sunday. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First United Methodist Church, Hiawatha, or Friends of the Library, Hiawatha, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha
