He has just butchered and will have plenty of pigs feet, sausage, back bone and spare ribs for his brethren. 1910 Rev Benjamin B Wheaton was born near Centerville, Warren County, Ohio April 10, 1837 and died in St Paris, Feb 3, 1910. In 1862 he enlisted in the Civil War and served till Feb 1865. On Aug 24, 1865 he was married to Elizabeth A Boole. To them were born 3 children, son and daughter died in infancy. One son Perry with his mother survive. Immediately after his marriage he located in the vicinity of Lena, where he spent nearly all the rest of his life. He was converted and united with the Regular Baptist Church called Sugar Creek in Centerville being baptized by Rev Samuel Williams Jan 4, 1857. He united by letter with the Lena Baptist Church about 1866. In April 1868 he was licensed by the Lena Church to preach the Gospel and was ordained at the same church April 28, 1874. During the time from 1870 to 1890 Brother Wheaton was actively engaged in pastorial and missionary labors in the Mad River Association, having organized the Sugar Grove and the Walnut Grove Churches. Since 1890 his affliction has not permitted him to engage in regular work but he has often served as supply and assisted in building up weak churches. And very many times when his home church was pastorless, he rendered valuable assistance. His helpfulness to the Lena Church as a Counselor and Peacemaker can scarely be over estimated. He always stood unwaveringly for the faith of the Gospel and for the true spirit of missions in the Church and Assoication and served many years on the Missionary Board. He was charitable, generous, hospitable and unenvious. He was cheerful and hopeful and endured years of torturing afflictions with great patience. In all his trials he did not lose his interest in the general welfare of his fellowman and the beautiful cemetery at Honey Creek where his body shall rest till the Resurrection morn will remain as a monument of his wisdom and persistent energy in seeking to be a public benefactor. Brother Wheaton was the last one of 12 children to cross the river. He was stricken with paralysis last July. Since the 14th of October he has been his son in St Paris who with his excellent wife and suffering mother have been untiring in their efforts to minister to his every want and have spared no pains to make his last days as comfortable as possible. As the end drew nigh, he often expressed himself as only waiting for the Masters call. He leaves a lonely widow, one son, the Lena Church and many friends to mourn his departure. St Paris February 3, 1910 Rev BB Wheaton, who has been in failing health for several months, died February 3, 1910, at the home of his son, Perry Wheaton in St Paris. He was born April 10, 1837, in Centerville, Warren Co, OH, aged 72 years, 9 months, 23 days. He married Elizabeth A Boole, August 24, 1865. Was a Civil War veteran, and a Baptist minister, and for many years resided in Lena, having moved to St Paris within the last year. Funeral services in Lena by Rev NY Mathews. Interment in Honey Creek Cemetery. Inscription: Co K -- 93 Reg OVI
