Mrs Foster had died only a year before, and Mr Foster was buried at her side in Memory cemetery. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Dec 10, 1945 Funeral services were held Sunday, December 9th, 1945 at 2:30 pm at the First Methodist Church at New Market, Iowa for Richard Lewis Foster, Sr of Coal Springs, South Dakota who passed away December 6th, 1945 at the home of his daughter, Mrs Helen J. Clark of Shenandoah, Iowa, following a short illness. Mr Foster has planned to visit his daughter until after the holidays and then in company with his son, go down to old Mexico to spend the remainder of the winter. The Rev R.J. Dieken, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarinda, Iowa, assisted by the Rev Bentzinger of the First Methodist Church of Clarinda, Iowa, were in charge of the services. Miss Aletha Hutchings and Mrs Doris Forbes, sand "The City Four Square" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". The many lovely floral tributes were cared for by Mrs Dora Spaulding, Mrs Albert Lund, Mrs Maude Mathewson and Mrs T.A. Pursell. Casket bearers were all nephews of the deceased and were Claude Foster, Sam Foster, Homer Foster, Ray Foster, Merrett Foster, Joe Foster, Dana Wood and Verlin Cade. Interment was in the Memory Cemetery. Out of town relatives here for the services were R.L. Foster Jr of Coal Springs, Mrs Helen J. Clark of Shenandoah, Iowa, Mrs Addie Wood, Mrs Bessie Johnson, Miss Georgie Wood and Dana Wood of King City, Missouri. Mr and Mrs Hal Wamsley, Miss Mary Foster of Clarinda, Iowa, and others. Richard Lewis Foster, son of Maria and Joseph Foster, was born in Knox County, Illinois near Galesburg, October 16, 1861 and passed away December 6, 1945 at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 6 days. On July 4, 1888 he was united in marriage to Clarice Adel Clark of Page County, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Helen J. and Richard L. Jr. Mrs Foster preceded him in death just a year ago, November 15th, 1944 also a grand son Herbert Foster Clark who died in infancy. Mr Foster's parents passed away a number of years ago, as did his brothers, Homer, Smith, John, Tom, Scott and William. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs Clark and son R.L. Foster Jr; 2 brothers, Bruce of St Peters, Minn and Fred of Clarinda, Iowa, also a number of nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends to mourn his passing. Mr Foster came to Iowa from Illinois, with his parents and 8 brothers, at an early age. They settled near Clarinda, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He received his education in the schools of Page County, Iowa. He was a young man of exemplary habits, he enjoyed taking his mother to Church and singing in the Church choir, a member of the male quartet. He was a well read man and a fine debater in literary circles. He believed in the Bible and quoted the scriptures fluently. He was a man of deep conviction. His cheerful, pleasant and unselfish disposition, endeared him to those who knew him. He entered into the life of the community sharing the joys and sorrows of the pioneer experiences, as well as those of a more modern age. For the past 35 years he has resided in South Dakota. Mr Foster was a prominent and successful business man, he owned and operated a large ranch, where he raised Hereford cattle. He attended the Cattlemans' Conventions and, belonged to their organizations. He was a life long Mason. His memory will ever be cherished as a loving husband, a devoted father and a loyal friend.
