Descendant of the Hugenots who came to England in the late 16th century, and settled in Canterbury. Robert Augustus was born on 24 November 1834 and baptised on 2 January 1835 at St Mildred's Church, Canterbury, Kent. Thomas Clifford born on 9 April 1881 in Blean (De Lasaux), and died 14 August 1916 Robert was a keen cricketer and in 1858 he represented Kent against England, and he played twice against England, and once against the Gentlemen of England. He played for Kent for several seasons, and he was one of the original members of the old Beverley Cricket club, for whom he played for many years and usually made good scores being a fine bowler. He was also one of the originators of the St Lawrence Cricket Club and was Captain for seventeen years. He was one of the original members of the Band of Brothers, which was closely linked with Kent County Cricket and the Canterbury week. He was an all round keen sportsman and runner, and at the age of 57 he was still winning running competitions. Robert also loved playing the game Diablo and in 1907 he gave an exhibition game at the Crystal Palace and he also played the Picollo. Robert was also a Sunday School teacher in Canterbury for many years. He died on 7 December 1914 at his residence Harland Rise, Barton Field, Canterbury, aged 80 and his funeral was held at St Martins, Canterbury on the 11 December 1914. In March 1918 there was a special service to dedicate a large beautiful stained glass window which was erected at the end of the south isle, in St Paul's church, Canterbury. It was dedicated to Robert, his wife Louisa and their son Thomas.
