Description	:	Robert Stephen Walker, son of Stephen Robert and Mary E. Walker, was born March 21, 1887, on a farm eight miles north of Hubbell, Thayer County, Nebraska. Walker, was born March 21, 1887, on a farm eight miles north of Hubbell, Thayer County, Nebraska. He departed this life October 3, 1955, at his home in Fairmont, Nebr., at the age of 68 years, 6 months, and 12 days. His boyhood days were spent on a farm in Thayer County. He attended high school in Chester and one year of trade school in Manhattan, Ks., and then took a year business course in Grand Island, Nebr. Upon graduation from business college, he worked in the office of the Union Pacific railroad (sic) in Grand Island until his health forced him to do a different type of work. With his sister, Myrtle, he went to Scotts Bluff County in 1907 to live on a homestead for about two years. December 22, 1909, he was united in marriage to Rosa A. Slagle of Hubbell, Nebr., and to this union were born three sons. The first ten years of their married life, the Walkers lived in Scottsbluff and Mr. Walker was a mechanic and crane operator for the Great Western Sugar Co. In Sept. 1919, they moved back to Thayer County to farm for a number of years, and in 1937 they bought a service station and grocery store at Hubbell, which they operated for ten years, then they moved back to Lexington, Nebr., for about two years to be close to two of their sons. Having purchased the Darley Don Motel, they moved to Fairmont, January 9, 1950, to operate their motel, and here they made their home. As a young man of eighteen Mr. Walker united with the Christian Church of Grand Island and moved this church letter with his family as they moved from one community to another. He was a man of Christian character and attended his church regularly as his health would permit through the years. He has been a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge thirty some years, and served on various school boards in Thayer Co. for 25 consecutive years. Mr. Walker loved his home and his greatest joy was his family. He was happy to meet people and always had a word of cheer for everyone. In his passing Mr. Walker leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rosa of Fremont, his sons; Robert Allen, and wife Doris and sons Jeff and Don of Cozad, John Hiram, and wife Frances and their sons Robert and Jackie of Elm Creek, Darrell E. and wife Margaret and their daughter Ann and son Steve of State College, Pennsylvania; and two sisters, Myrtle Tietsort of Lincoln, and Verna Sell of Chester, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Fairmont Federated church (sic) at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, Rev. Willard F. Payne, officiating. Dewey Van Cleef of Chester sang, with Janet Bridgman accompanist. Pallbearers were E.E. Mumby, Wm. Boren, Don Beavers, George Jensen, Willard Goodrich, Bill Fry. Interment was in the Chester cemetery (sic) with the Fairmont Odd Fellow lodge in charge of the graveside service.
