| Description | : | The following biographical sketch is added at the request of Gerald Hobson: "Roger Wayne Akin was born February 1, 1915, the second son and fourth child of Robert Wesley and Pearl (Parks) Akin. He was just an ordinary little boy until he was struck down with infantile paralysis (now known as polio) when he was about twelve. He received treatment in Wesley Hospital in Wichita and endured at least one operation, but was left crippled.
