The Saunders family moved from Monroe Co. and settled in the White Gate neighborhood when she was a small girl. She made a profession of religious and united with the M. E. Obituary: Mrs. Sallie Frances Saunders Carr was born in Monroe Co., WVa. Sept. 8, 1861. The Saunders family moved from Monroe Co. and settled in the White Gate neighborhood when she was a small girl. She made a profession of religious and united with the M. E. Church, South when about 16 or 17 years old. Though mentally afflicted for many years, her faith in God never faltered. She was a great believer in prayer. She was married to George William Carr Oct. 10, 1888. To this union, seven children were born, five of whom are still living: J. Robert Carr of Williamson, WVa., Jesse C. Carr of Poplar Hill, Allen Carr of Kenova, WVa., and two daughters, Mrs. Nannie May Correll of Portsmouth, Va. and Miss Janie Carr of Poplar Hill. On March 29th she was stricken with paralysis from which she never rallied and was an invalid until the 31st day of October, 1925 when she calmly fell asleep in the arms of her blessed Lord whom she loved and from which sleep she will awake in his likeness. The funeral was held in the home on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 1, and burial was in the Poplar Hill Cemetery. Besides her husband and children, she is survived by four brothers: John B. Saunders of Williamson, WVa., Wm B. Saunders of Candler, NC, R. Pearis Saunders of Poplar Hill, Va., and C. Bowman Saunders of Radford, Va., and two sisters, Mrs. Josie Lindsey of Roanoke, Va. and Mrs. Fult Frazier of Bluefield, WVa. "Her labors are ended, her sufferings o'er, She has crossed life's sea to the beautiful shore, To join with the ransomed in the song they sing, Redeemed, redeemed by the blood of the king."
