Burgert, died last night at his home in Stull. The Rev. Mr. Burgert began his work in the Evangelical church in Oklahoma in 1890 as a missionary. He later held pastorates in several Kansas towns. Shortly after the World war his health forced him to retire and he came to Lawrence, where he resided for several years. About nine years ago he purchased a place in the Stull vicinity. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. E. B. Burgert of the home; three sons, R. O. Burgert, Lawrence; the Rev. E. O. Burgert, Topeka; and the Rev. C. O. Burgert, Drummond, Okla.; and four daughters, Mrs. Alice Nelson, Hiawatha, Kan.; Mrs. Cleta Schreiber, Yates Center; Mrs. Esther Boehringer, Leona, Kan.; and Miss Emma Burgert, Lawrence. Twenty-five grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Burgert, who died Monday at his home in Stull will be held at the Stull church at 10 o'clock Friday morning. Burial will be in Oak Hill. From "Journal of the Kansas Conference 1938"- Rev. S. A. Burgert, father of Mrs. Jacob Nelson, Mrs. R. R. Schreiber, Mrs. V. J. Boehringer, Rev. Chester O. Burgert, and Rev. Eran O. Burgert, was born in Greensburg, Ohio, February 9, 1860, and died suddenly at his home at Stull, Kansas, August 23, 1937. He was converted and joined the Evangelical Church of Winston, Missouri, when 14 years old. He was licensed to preach by the Kansas Conference in March, 1890. He served in the Conference for 29 years, serving the following fields: Oklahoma Mission, Cambridge, Offerle, Woodruff, Lucas, Alden, Lost Springs, Kill Creek, McPherson, Warrensburg, Missouri and Clair, Missouri. His deepest concern was the Cause of Christ and his Church.
