Description	:	Samuel was born on a farm south of Hunt's Corners in Lyme Twp., Huron Co. He was the second born of 13 children but filled the role of oldest as he was the first child to survive infancy. He attended township schools, Monroeville High School and Spencerian Business School in Cleveland. Samuel also helped his father on the farm in his youth, but at age 19, he contracted typhoid fever and this greatly weakened his health for some time. He worked for two years as an accountant for the fruit commission house in Cleveland, and then in 1889 he became engaged... Read More	Samuel was born on a farm south of Hunt's Corners in Lyme Twp., Huron Co. He was the second born of 13 children but filled the role of oldest as he was the first child to survive infancy. He attended township schools, Monroeville High School and Spencerian Business School in Cleveland. Samuel also helped his father on the farm in his youth, but at age 19, he contracted typhoid fever and this greatly weakened his health for some time. He worked for two years as an accountant for the fruit commission house in Cleveland, and then in 1889 he became engaged in the business of raising sheep in Texas. In 1892 Samuel shipped his 3,200 head of sheep to Butler Co., Kansas by rail car. (His uncle, John Henry Heymann, was also in Butler Co., Kansas.) The same year, he and Matilda Katherine Meyer were married on July 7. They settled in Butler Co. and had five of their eight children. In 1904 they returned to Ohio due to Matilda's health.
