He had been failing for several years and for some time his demise had been looked for by family and friends. Mr Dubes homesteaded in Silver township in 1868 and his family have been residents of the county since 1870. He was born Sept. 17, 1828, in York county, Pa. At the age of 21 years he removed to Ohio, where he was married Jan 8, 1852 to Miss Hannah Sawvil. In 1863 he came to Iowa and settled in Clayton county. In August 1862, he left the peaceful pursuit of agriculture to engage in the defense of the union enlisting in the 27th Iowa, Co 4. He served two and a half years. After his discharge he returned to AIlamakee county and to this county in 1869. Mr and Mrs Dubes were the parents of seven children. The mother died some five or six years ago and the father is survived by two sons and two daughters. These are Michael Dubes of Cherokee , Daniel Dubes of Aurelia, Mrs Henry Lane of Cherokee, and Maggie Dubes, at home. Mr Dubes was a man highly esteemed as a neighbor and as a citizen. The funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon Friends will meet at the house at 1 o'clock and the services will be held at Mt. Olive church. Interment will be had in Good Hope cemetery.
