Woodward, Another Pioneer is called "Home" Funeral services for Mrs. M.L. Woodward, another of the grand old ladies of this community who passed away at her home in this city last Friday evening, was held at the Christian Church of Glasco, of which she was an active member, on Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Rollyn Kaiser. The large concourse of people who attended the services speaks volumes for the high esteem in which the community held the deceased. Sarah Lavina Jordan Sarah Lavina Jordan, daughter of William and Elizabeth Jordan, was born August 21, 1853, at Kentville, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Here she spent her girlhood days until in 1871, at the age of eighteen, she removed with her parents to the United States. They came by railroad to Solomon, Kansas, driving from there to Glasco with team and wagon. Glasco at that time was a small village with only a store, postoffice and blacksmith shop. In the fall of 1871 they moved to the William Jordan homestead three miles northwest of Glasco. On December 6th of the same year, she was united in marriage to Mortimer L. Woodward and moved to Mr. Woodward's homestead three miles west of Glasco, where they resided for fifteen years, enduring the hardships of pioneer days in a new country. The house was blessed by the birth of five daughters and two sons, Eugenia who died in infancy, Allie Lunetia Butler of Glasco, Nellie Mary Boyle of Niles, Kansas; Myrtella Drown, who preceded her mother fifteen years ago; Orpha Ryan of Chesaning, Mich; Hanson Sumner Woodward of Glasco; and Maurice Russel Woodward of Billings, Montana. It was with the loving care and thoughtfulness of these surviving children that did so much to brighten and cheer the last days of their mother and whose lives in the community are a tribute to the careful Christian care and training given them by their parents, and whose thoughts are now for the comforting and care of their father. All of the children are present except Mrs. Orpha Ryan, who recently returned to her home in Michigan, after spending six weeks caring for her parents, giving them every possible care and attention. In addition to her immediate home circle she leaves four sisters and three brothers, all of whom are here except Norman H. Jordan, who is in California.
