Description	:	Simon Begeman was born on the 5th day of February, 1852, at New Schons, Holland. At the age of twelve years he learned the trade of shoe maker. And later he served his time in the Holland army. Mr. Begeman came to America in the year 1884, and came to the vicinity of Lennox, SD. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Kera Haase. He worked for Mr. F. E. Hayward as shoe maker until the year 1900 when he entered into the shoe and harness business for himself at Parker. In 1917 he retired from business and move... Read More	Simon Begeman was born on the 5th day of February, 1852, at New Schons, Holland. At the age of twelve years he learned the trade of shoe maker. And later he served his time in the Holland army. Mr. Begeman came to America in the year 1884, and came to the vicinity of Lennox, SD. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Kera Haase. He worked for Mr. F. E. Hayward as shoe maker until the year 1900 when he entered into the shoe and harness business for himself at Parker. In 1917 he retired from business and move to Los Angeles, CA, where he lived until the time of his death. He was stricken by a paralytic stroke on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1929, at his home in Los Angeles, and died on Friday, Nov. 15, 1929. His son and daughter went to California as soon as they received the message of the illness of their father. They arrived shortly after his death, but were there to help and comfort their mother. Mr. Begeman leaves to mourn his death, his wife, one son, Edward F. Begeman, and one daughter, Mrs. Henry Buse, and eight grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. Martha Van Zone of Lennox, SD. One brother, Frederick Begeman, and one sister, Mrs. Lucus Muller, preceded him in death. During all the years of his residence in this community Mr. Begeman has been known as a citizen of the highest type. He was a Christian man, a good husband, father and neighbor. His passing means the loss of another pioneer whose sturdy characteristics have helped to develop this section.
