Mrs. Susan May Cox, familiarly known as "Aunt Susan," died at the home of her son, John out near Beecher Island, Monday, July 23rd, at the ripe old age of 83 years. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Rachel Dangerfield Boast, and burial took place in Grandview cemetery. Mrs. Susan May Cox, familiarly known as "Aunt Susan," died at the home of her son, John out near Beecher Island, Monday, July 23rd, at the ripe old age of 83 years. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Rachel Dangerfield Boast, and burial took place in Grandview cemetery. Susan May Hickerson was born in Madison county, Kentucky, Sept. 16, 1840. At the age of 10 years she moved with her parents to Adams county, Illinois, and at the age of 23 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Cox. To this union six children were born, five sons and one daughter. The daughter died at the age of 19, and two sons died in infancy. Mr. Cox died January 5, 1907 and was buried at Nowata, Okla. Mrs. Cox and her two sons, John and William, moved to Colorado in 1909. John remained, and Mrs. Cox had made her home with John and his wife all these years, except for a period of about nine months when she went back to Oklahoma to visit. She had been ill for several years, afflicted with an incurable disease. She bore her suffering with great fortitude and was tenderly cared for by her son John and his wife. Mrs. Cox was a faithful member of the Christian church, having become a member of that denomination at the age of 18. The deceased is survived by three sons, John of near Wray, and Caleb and William of Oklahoma; by one sister, Mrs. Elvira Cox of this city; two brothers; 12 grandchildren; and many less near relatives and friends. The sympathy of many friends is extended the bereaved relatives.
