McCoy, died at the Agnew hospital in Kansas City, Mo., at 3 o'clock Sunday morning, November 17, 1901. He had been in the hospital for about four weeks with appendicitis. Mrs. Stickel, and her daughter Zula, were with him and were a great comfort to him. Two operations were performed successfully and he seemed to get better, but a change came and death followed. Fred McCoy was a graduate of the Ann Arber[sic] law school and was the court stenographer of this judicial district under Judge Emery. About three years ago he went to Kansas City to practice law. He did stenographic work there and also practiced law in partnership with the Darius H. Brown, a prominent lawyer, and the city coronor[sic]. At the time he was taken sick he was doing well in the law business and had quite a good practice. He was about 34 years old at the time of his death. His body was brought here Monday. The Knights of Pythias took charge of the remains at the train and marched from there to the cemetery, where the lodge burial service was read by Rev. Mr. Hassenpflug, followed by prayer by Rev. Mr. Haggett. A quartette sang very sweetly. A very large number of friends gathered at the depot to escort the body to the grave. Fred McCoy was a kind-hearted man and very generally liked.
