Baker was born in Pennsylvania February 12,1844 and departed this life after a lingering illness of consumption, May 4, 1907. At the age of fifteen years be came to this state with his parents and has resided in Clarke county almost continuously for forty eight years. He was married to Nancy K. Baker was born in Pennsylvania February 12,1844 and departed this life after a lingering illness of consumption, May 4, 1907. At the age of fifteen years be came to this state with his parents and has resided in Clarke county almost continuously for forty eight years. He was married to Nancy K. Harrison in 1870, to which union were born nine children: Mary E. Earlywine, J. E. and J. H. Baker, Mrs. Maude D. Flynn, Mrs. Minnie B. Kerns, Mrs. Ora Davis, Mrs. McLaughlin and J. L. Baker who with his widow and three brothers and one sister are left to mourn his death. One child died in infancy. Mr. Baker professed faith in Christ over forty years ago and at time of his death was a member of the M. E. church at Woodburn. He bore his sufferings patiently and often expressed himself as being ready and willing to respond to the call of his Master. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Bethel Chapel conducted by his pastor, Rev. Pond and attended by a large gathering of neighbors and friends.
