Description	:	Thomas Britt, a native of Tennessee, was the son of Leroy Britt and Rhoda Anne Seaton. They came to Iowa about 1845, first settling in western Iowa at the time of the expulsion of the Mormons from Nauvoo, Illinois and then moving to Glenwood in Mills County where Thomas became a farmer. He married Martha Dunnagan, a native of Ireland who was a resident of Glenwood, on 16 Feb 1859. Read More	Thomas Britt, a native of Tennessee, was the son of Leroy Britt and Rhoda Anne Seaton. They came to Iowa about 1845, first settling in western Iowa at the time of the expulsion of the Mormons from Nauvoo, Illinois and then moving to Glenwood in Mills County where Thomas became a farmer. He married Martha Dunnagan, a native of Ireland who was a resident of Glenwood, on 16 Feb 1859. They had three children; Maude C Britt (Donner), Dr. William H Britt, and Lewis P Britt (who died at the age of 8 years). He served during the war as a member of the 29th Iowa regiment which was made up largely of Mills county men. He enlisted as a 4th Corporal on 18 Aug 1862 at the age of 26 years. Mustered in Co B 29th Iowa Infantry on 15 Nov 1862. Promoted 3rd Corporal 1 Jan 1963, to 5th Sergeant on 3 Jul 1863, and to 1st Sergeant on 15 Oct 1863. Mustered out 10 Aug 1865 at New Orleans, Louisiana. He returned to Mills County after the war and continued to farm. His wife, Martha, died in 1890. Thomas was twice elected to serve as a representative in the Iowa legislature. He served from 1892-1896. His special duty was to see that the institution for feeble minded at Glenwood was well treated in the matter of appropriations. In 1896 Thomas married Mrs. Flora Dunlap. Flora brought at least three step sons to the marriage: William, Ray, and Harry. Thomas died in 1906 at his home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he had lived since 1900. He had been sick for some time with the disease "creeping paralysis" and was partially paralyzed for 6 months prior to his death.
