April 23, 1828. died of neuralgia of the heart on Tuesday night about midnight November 13, 1894, aged 66 years, 6 months, and 20 days. The deceased was married to Miss Nancy Long of Carroll County, Jan 23, 1853. to them were born thirteen children - eight boys and five girls, of whom one son and ? daughters preceded him to the eternal world. Mr. Moreland and wife went to housekeeping at Palermo where they resided nearly a year when they moved to Delroy (then Cannonsburg) where Mr. Moreland had taken a contract of building the M.E. church. Finishing this in about a year thereafter, they moved back to Palermo and kept store four or five years. They then moved to New Haggerstown, where they lived for some time and again bought a store. They next moved their store into the building in Bowerston in which the family now resides some time in October of 1863 - and kept store about ten years. After this till the time of his death he followed the carpenter trade successfully. during all this time Mr. Moreland gave attention to law, and many a suit he gained by his honest and persuasive pleading. Having lived in the town of Bowerston for over 31 years, he was well known to the people of this community. He was a kind and loving husband and father. His whole life was devoted to the welfare and comfort of his family. And he was a good citizen, a kind neighbor, and an honest man. He was four times chosen mayor of our town, having served six years in succession from April 1885 to April of 1891 - and elected again in April of 1894 - which fourth term he was serving. After his death council called a meeting to pass resolutions. We give them in another column. His death was not caused by sickness, hence his suffering was short. Prostrated on the day before his death by a severe pain in the head, it shifted to his heart and he gently passed away on the above date. The funeral took place on Friday Nov. 16th, the services being held at the Lutheran Church whree he attended. Rev. D.M. Kemerer preached the sermon from II Kins XX, 1 to a very large councourse of friends who attended the burial in the Lutheran cemetery. We shall ever cherish his memory. And to his family and especially his good old wife, we extend our sympathy.
