Read More	COMRADE DAY MUSTERED OUT Thomas Wesley Day, son of Bryan & Rachael Day was born in Clay County, Indiana, October 22, 1840. In the year 1854 he moved with his parents to Des Moines County, Iowa and in the year 1855 came to Clarke County where he resided until death, March 8, 1913, aged 72 years, 4 months and 16 days. October 5, 1871 the deceased was united in marriage with Margaret Little. To this union, six children were born, two of whom preceded their father to the Better Land, four surviving children, all of whom were present. Bryan of St Edwards, Nebr., Roy Day and Jennie Davis of Winside, Nebr., and Ruby Swanson of Lorimor, Iowa. Mr. Day was a soldier in the Civil War, having been a member of the 18th Iowa Infantry and served his country faithfully for three years. He was also a Christian Soldier and a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a conscientious Christian gentleman until death. Besides his beloved wife and children, he leaves to mourn his departure, six brothers and three sisters, namely - Newton Day of Comstock, Nebr., - James Day of Walla Walla, Washington - Asbury Day of Washington - Daniel Day of McPherson , Kansas - Ira Day and Martha Gibson of Spokane, Washington - Liddie McIntosh of Eagleville, Missouri - William Day of Colorado and Jane Husted of Murray, Iowa. Two brothers and two sisters [ Daniel - Newton - Liddie and Jane ] are present, but the other brothers and sisters were unable to come from their far distant homes. Truly a kind heart has ceased to beat, a devoted wife has been robbed of her companion, the children robbed of a father and the community has been called upon to give up one of its respected citizens. The forgoing briefly tells of the life of one of our highly respected citizens and an old soldier. For many years, Mr Day lived among us, during which time he formed a wide acquaintance with the people of Clarke County. He was a man worthy of trust which was manifested by his daily life. Mr. Day held various offices of trust during his life for several years being a member of the Board of Supervisors for Clarke County. Since retiring from the farm several years ago, the deceased lived in Murray and formed more intimate acquaintance with neighbors and friends here, all of whom now feel the loss of a good friend and honorable citizen. Funeral services were held from the home at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday conducted by Rev. G.W. Palmer, former pastor of the Murray Methodist Church, now located at Pleasantville. The services were largely attended, among the old soldiers in attendance being several old soldiers from Osceola. The presence of so many warm friends and beautiful floral displays was added testimony of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment was made in the Murray Cemetery, Private Thomas Wesley Day served three years in the Civil War - Company B - 18th Iowa Infantry - 7-23-1862 to 7-20-1865 - Participated in the battles of Springfield, Missouri - Saline River and Poison Springs, Arkansas and Prairie DeHand besides others of minor importance. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.
