Pallbearers were Aubrey George, Dean Hollesen, Erwin Mark, Dayle Rydstrom, Waldo Willeford and Don Yungbluth. Burial was in Lone Tree cemetery at Sioux Rapids with the Sliefert Funeral home of Sioux Rapids in charge of arrangements. Verne Hollesen, third son of Anine Jensen Hollesen and Lou Hollesen, was born on September 6, 1900, on a farm near what was then Scott Center, close to Alta, Iowa. When he was about a year old the family moved to Sioux Rapids, where he has resided ever since. He attended the Lee township school. In 1921 he was united in marriage with Lenore Hendricks. To this union were born four children. His wife passed away Nov. 21, 1958. On April 20, 1965, he was united in marriage with Katherine Napier. In his young years, he was employed by the F.D. White Merchantile Co. and for 36 years was a theater projectionist here in Sioux Rapids. He also worked for Cyril Anderson in the greenhouse for quite some time, and he had a deep love for green growing things. Since a lad of 16, he had been connected with a carnival during the summer months and he treasured the many friendships he made during those trips, for he thoroughly enjoyed people and visiting with them. He was also very interested in trains and steam engines, and also had a collection of over 2000 different kinds of pencils. Verne was baptized and reared in the Lutheran faith. At the time of his death he was a member of the United Church of Christ, also serving as deacon. He had also served on the Park board for many years. He had a deep Christian faith that was very apparent in his day to day living. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. At about 5:30 p.m. in the evening of December 22, 1975, he passed away very suddenly at his home in Sioux Rapids, having attained the age of 75 years, 3 months and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a daughter in infancy, his first wife, one sister - LuLu and three brothers - Jack, Ben and Darreld. He is survived by his wife, Katherine; two sons and their wives - Harry and Joyce and Ronald (Bud) and Carole Hollesen, all of Sioux Rapids; 5 grandchildren: Cheryl (Mrs. Tom Waitsfelder) of New York City, Jymme Hollesen of Spencer and Cynthia, Sandra, and Richard Hollesen, all of Sioux Rapids; two great grandchildren: Darla and Kari Waitfelder; two sisters and their husbands - Mr. and Mrs. Jay (Ethel) Lighter of Sacred Heart, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Earl (Stella) Crow of Hinckley, Minn.; three sisters-in-law - Mrs. Florence Hollesen and Mrs. Virginia Hollesen, both of Sioux Rapids, and Mrs. Hazel Hollesen of Spirit Lake; step-son, Gene Napier and his family of Sioux Rapids and a step-daughter, Mrs. Enos Huffman of Cogswell, N.D., and her family; five step grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
