Description	:	Vernon Tietje, 86, of McComb, Ohio passed away Tuesday March 6, 2018. Vernon was born in Freedom Township, Napoleon, Ohio to the late Carl and Emilie (Arps) Tietje. One evening while at the Bavarian House in Deshler he met Carolyn Jean Voland while attending a Polka dance and they fell in love and were married on May 29, 1999 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Freedom Township, Napoleon and she survives in McComb. Also surviving are his children: Leesa ( Neil) Gerber of Washington, Illinois, Julie ( Nick) Ryan and Scott Tietje of Napoleon, Brian ( Debbie) Tietje of Atascadero, California, Sherry Cooper of McComb and Laurie Voland of Columbus; grandchildren: Nicholas Cooper, Mikaela, Kadynce, Camden and Chase Voland, Brittany Scheetz, Sabrina Ryan, Cody, Dylan, Summer and Hunter Tietje, Matthew, Joshua, Andrew, Alex and Jeremy Gerber, and Emily Lehman and 15 great-grandchildren and a daughter in-law Veronica Voland of Van Buren. He was preceded in death by his son John Michael Voland and a brother Donald Tietje. Vernon was a 1949 graduate of Ridgeville High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in La Rochelle, in southern France. Vernon drove for Otto C. Meyer Milk Truck and then went to Campbell Soup Company retiring in 1993, but his true love was farming. Vernon was a member of the Morrison Moorhead VFW #9231 of McComb and the Ridgeville American Legion #454. Vernon attended the McComb Church of Christ. Vernon loved being outdoors, traveling and most importantly spending time with his family and grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Visitation for Vernon will be on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. in the HARTLEY-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 370 Park Dr. S., McComb, Ohio 45858. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Vernon’s funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the HARTLEY-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME. Military Honors will be rendered by the Hancock County Memorial Squad at the end of Vernon’s funeral service. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Freedom Township, Napoleon. Memorial contributions may be gifted in Vernon’s honor to Bridge Hospice.
