Wealthy Jane Vinzant was born in Madison county, Indiana, March 14, 1842, and died of progressive paralysis at her home in Exeter, this county, February 1, 1800, aged 53 years, 10 months and 17 days. She was converted at the early age of 11 and united with the M. E. church in Indiana November 6, 1860. She was united in holy matrimony [6 Nov 1859, Bowling Green, Clay, Indiana, United States] to W. W. Vinzant, who now mourns her loss. Soon after their marriage they moved to Illinois, where they remained about eight years. There they buried a little son. Still looking westward they came to Kansas and settled on the farm where she spent the remainder of her life attending strictly to the duties of Christian companion and mother. Here she buried another little son. She was the mother of twelve children, eight sons and four daughters. Her ten living children were at her bedside when she passed away. Many times she said to the weeping family: "Don't weep for me, but sing." She also said: "It is so sweet to trust Jesus. He is with me all the time." Her life and words of comfort and cheer are a precious boon to hearts so sorrowful. She, with her husband, joined the M. E. church at Exeter as charter members. She was always a pillar in the church. She loved the church and was a consistent Christian. She was loved and esteemed by all her neighbors, and we, as loving companion, children and neighbors who mourn our loss, do not mourn as they who have no hope but from the depth of our hearts we say: Mother, thou hast been true: dear To thy loved ones all thy days; And thy voice we shall follow To that better land beyond, O! To be ever with then In that land of rest. We shall ever be faithful Arid with thee a crown shall wear. Thou hast left us, dear sister; We shall hear thy voice no more; But thy life still entreats us To a pure and perfect life. Jesus, thy Savior called thee; Thou hast heard, "Well done." We shall meet thee in glory Where parting shall be no more. The funeral services were held at Exeter Monday, February 3, 1896, at 11 a.m., Rev. N. T. Peddycord delivering the sermon from Matthew 35:34, "Come ye blessed of my Father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."
