Wilbur was born at Sabetha, June 10, 1930, one of three children born to Leonard and Evelyn Peck Bindel. He grew up near Powhattan where he attended country school prior to graduating from Powhattan High School where he played football. One of his life regrets was he so wanted to serve his country in the military but at that time, the military would not accept the only son of the family. He married Loudeen Darleen Wilson, January 10, 1954. They lived in Brown County until the summer of 1962, when the family moved to California, eventually settling in Lodi where Wilbur worked as an artificial inseminator for Curtis Breeding Service until returning to Brown County near Hiawatha, the summer of 1976. Wilbur was the Kansas City Star rural paper carrier for the Hiawatha and Falls City area, retiring at the age of 67. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Loudeen, February 20, 2013.... It was Wilbur’s request to be cremated with no formal service. Private family inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wilbur Bindel Memorial Fund, to be designated later by the family, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha.
