Her husband, Reuben Herrold, passed five years earlier on the same day. Wilda was born January 17, 1924, in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, to John Presley and Luna Rosella Ater. She and her family moved to California in 1935 when she was 11 years old. She grew up in a little town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas called Springville and lived there until her marriage to Reuben Herrold in 1948. After their marriage they moved to the nearby city of Porterville. Reuben and Wilda had two daughters. They remained in Porterville until Reuben’s passing in 2012. Wilda was active in Ephworth League and Sunday School during her teenage years, and became a member of the Porterville First United Methodist Church in 1965. While in Porterville, she was the Secretary for the United Methodist Women’s group for a number of years, and also was Secretary of the Church Board. Additional interests included participation in Eastern Star (she was a Past Worthy Matron), Porterville Women’s Club (she served as the Secretary) and Garden Club (again as Secretary), and a volunteer Pink Lady for the Porterville’s Sierra View District Hospital where she was a dispatcher and a strong supporter of their book sale program which benefits the cancer treatment center there. Wilda worked 32 years for the United States Forest Service, both in the District and Supervisor’s Office of the Sequoia National Forest. Wilda arrived in Cody in November of 2012, after the passing of her husband. They had been married 63 years. After the warm welcome she received from the Cody United Methodist Church, she decided to transfer her longtime membership of 47 years with the Porterville church to Cody United Methodist Church. Here she has been active in the United Methodist Women’s group as well as Rebekah Circle. Wilda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister (Thelma Willis), brother (Lester Ater), and sister-in-law (Helen Ater). She is survived by her daughters, Maureen Humbert (Richard) of Vancouver, WA; and Theresa Harris (Ronald) of Cody, WY. Grandchildren are: Sarah Schlosser (Brian) of Vancouver, WA; Rachel Wall of Portland, OR; Melissa (Robertson) Story of Rock Springs, WY; Michael Robertson (Sabrina Hernandez) of Bakersfield, CA; and Mathew Robertson (Bridgette Trujillo) of Fort Collins, CO. Great grandchildren are: Julian Nevarez and Paige Schlosser of Vancouver, WA; Dalton Robertson of Moscow, ID; Kayla Story of Rock Springs, WY; Rhylee Gotschall of Gillette, WY; and Jacob Robertson of Bakersfield, CA; and a niece, nephew and other extended family members. A Celebration of Wilda’s Life will occur on Tuesday, March 7th, 11:00 a.m., at Cody United Methodist Church, 1405 Beck Street, Cody, WY 82414. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Cody United Methodist Church new roof fund, or Spirit Mountain Hospice House located in Cody, WY. Services have been entrusted with Ballard Funeral Home.
