Pallbearers were grandchildren, Dick Coats, Bud Wahl, Doug Coats, Billy Coats, Stanley Jack and Russell Ablard. Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. Art Tibben. Organ selections were played by Mrs. Ruth Ocheltree. Mr. Coats, the son of David and Sarah Coats was born on a farm southwest of Victor, March 25, 1875. He received his education in the country school near his home and for two years in the Victor high school. He was married to Alta Farrell of Victor, Sept. 12, 1897, and they had six children. After their marriage they farmed in the community where he was born. Later they farmed northwest of Victor. In 1919 they moved to town and eight years later back to the farm where they have lived since. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1947 and their 60th on September, 12, 1957. He was a member of the Victor Methodist church for many years and the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges. He concluded a total of 23 years as supervisor in January, 1954. His health had been failing for the past three years and he had been in the Marengo Memorial hospital for three weeks when he died Aug. 18. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Light, Mrs. Lois Shipe and Mrs. Jeannette Schrader, all of Fontana, CA., three sons, Noel and Rex Coats of Victor, and Bruce of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Mohr and Mrs. Elva Park both of Victor, and three brothers, Blaine of Colorado, Jim of California, and Charles of Brooklyn, Ia.
