Bridgeman, a gardener living about three miles east of the city, was severely injured in a runaway accident on Broadway yesterday afternoon. He was driving a team of young, spirited horses hitched to a farm wagon. At Bryant street the horses started on a run and Bridgeman was unable to control them. They dashed across the street, swerving just as they reached the sidewalk. The wagon struck the curb and Bridgeman was thrown, striking on his head and shoulders. When picked up Bridgeman was unconscious, but soon came to. He had a deep cut in the head over the left ear and a number of smaller cuts and bruises. He complained of the pain in his head and was taken to the Edmundson hospital in the police ambulance. His condition last night was reported to be critical. The team continued on its career until it struck a telephone pole at the corner of Broadway and Fourth street, after colliding with a delivery wagon belonging to C. Morgan. The wagon was badly broken and one of the horses was injured about the fore legs. It is said that only a few months ago Bridgeman was somewhat severely injured by the same team running away. Bridgeman, injured Saturday afternoon in a runaway accident on Broadway, died yesterday morning at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial hospital, where he was taken immediately after the accident. Mr. Bridgeman was 51 years old and a native of Germany. He lived with his wife and invalid father on a farm near the old Green packing house, east of the city. As a boy he followed the life of a sailor, going to sea when but 12 years old. He came to this city in 1885. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the residence of Dr. James McRoberts, 21 Benton street, and the burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery. Rev. J. S. Corbely of the Seventh Day Adventist church will conduct the services. The Sons of Herman, of which order deceased was a member, will attend the funeral in a body.
