Mr. Wickersham died in the Deaconess hospital Tuesday morning at 12:20 from injuries suffered when his car was struck by a troop train traveling on the Chicago and Great Western railroad Sunday afternoon northeast of Melbourne near the Maple Grove cemetery. Death was due to a skull fracture. Mr. Wickersham was born on the same farm on which he lived at the time of his death and the railroad crossing on which he was struck by the train was on the corner of his farm. He was returning from Marshalltown, where he visited a son, Thomas, who was in St. Thomas Mercy hospital, when the accident took place. It was the fifth auto fatality in Marshall county this year. William A. Wickersham was born Sept. 24, 1879, the son of T. G. and Elizabeth Wickersham. On Aug. 25, 1915, he married Miss Minnie Schneider at Tama. His wife died May 26, 1936. Survivors include the son, Thomas William Wickersham, who lives at home, and two daughters, Mrs. Charles L. Thompson, northwest of State Center, and Miss Mary June Wickersham, student at the University of Iowa at Iowa City. One son died in infancy. Three sisters, Mrs. Walter Andrews of Melbourne, Mrs. Charles McComish of Colusa, Calif., and Miss Edith Wickersham of Marshalltown, as well as one grandson, Charles William Thompson, also survive. Mr. Wickersham was a member of the Full Moon lodge, A. F. and A. M. of Melbourne. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
