He was sick in bed only three days. He was born at Prescott, Ontario, Canada, November 26, 1846, and came to Kansas and Brown county in 1869. He was married to Adele Huntington of Iowa, July 24, 1872. He was sick in bed only three days. He was born at Prescott, Ontario, Canada, November 26, 1846, and came to Kansas and Brown county in 1869. He was married to Adele Huntington of Iowa, July 24, 1872. Mr. Baker first settled on the place now the Hamlin townsite, but came to Hiawatha March 1883, and bought the Dr. Macy place now owned by Mr. Gue at the east end of Miami street. Besides the wife he leaves eight children, five daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. Harry Leideigh of Spearville, Mrs. Harvey Shaw of St. Joseph, Mrs. Harley Benfer of Hiawatha, and Misses Bertha and Frances Baker, who teach school in Kansas City, Missouri. The sons are John Baker of Dallas, Texas, William of Auburn and Thomas Baker who lives at home. The children were all home for the funeral which was held at the home on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev L.L. Hassenpflug. The body bearers were: H.C. Baker, A.J. Hewitt, S. Bierer, J.G. Waste, James Shadel and Anderson McCoy. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
