GIBSON DIED OF TUESDAY Prominent Retired Business Man One of Crisfield's most prominent citizens, Mr. William E. Gibson, died at his home on Main street early Tuesday morning after a short illness, at the age of 87 years. He was a son of the late Samuel H. and Susan F. Gibson. His wife, Mrs Fannie C. Gibson, died some years ago. Mr. Gibson had been in good health and was active up until the time of his death. He was the owner of large parcels of real estate in Crisfield, to which he gave his attention, as well as to his other important investment interests. He had a long and active life, having engaged in the seafood business as a young man with his brother, the late B. F. Gibson, and for a great number of years this concern was one of the largest and leading seafood packing concerns in Maryland. Some years ago he retired from this business. Mr. Gibson was the last of the original group which organized the Bank of Crisfield in 1892. He had been a director of the bank, with the exception of two or three years since it founding, and for the past 18 years was a member of the Finance Committee. He also was Vice President the bank. A man of quiet tastes, a shrewd investor, Mr. Gibson was probaly the wealthiest man in the community. In his daily life he was courteous and affable; and he performed many deeds of kindess for a great many people in a way that few of his fellow citizens were aware of. He disliked publicity, but was always interested in the advancement of the community and had helped in that direction by building a number of large and modern buildings in the business center of the city. He had a circle of friends who appreciated him for his integrity, for his helpfulness, for his advice and he enjoyed the respect and high esteem of the public generally. He rested at his home on Main street until 2:30 p.m Thursday, when funeral services were held conducted by Rev. Elmer L. Bennett pastor of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church of which Mr. Gibson had been a member and a generous contributor for many years. He had helped build the present beautiful church edifice on Main street. Interment was in the family lot in the Crisfield cemetery. Bearers were members of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Crisfield, and included A. Wellington Tawes, Warren F Sterling, W. Frank Daugherty, M. Brevoort Thawley, T. Coyne Sterling and Prentiss V. Evans. He is survived by two daughter Mrs. Adaline G. Dize and Miss Esta Gibson, of Crisfield one brother, Mr. Walter L.
