Bill was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Angela(Hazelswart)Crist of Defiance, Ohio, his father William E Crist Sr., of Fremont, OH and his mother Marjorie N. Jennings of Chambersburg, PA. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Angela(Hazelswart)Crist of Defiance, Ohio, his father William E Crist Sr., of Fremont, OH and his mother Marjorie N. Jennings of Chambersburg, PA. Bill is survived by his daughters Marcia Crist of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Suzan Janic of Sandy, UT, his brother James Crist of Canton, OH, five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was born in Toledo, OH and graduated from Scott High School and attended Defiance College. He joined the U.S Navy on July 7, 1941 and served aboard the USS Barnes (CVE20), USS Cook Inlet (AVP36) and the USS Grimes (APA172). He married Ruth in Corpus Christi, TX on August 28, 1943. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy on July 26, 1946. During their married life, Ruth and Bill lived in Corpus Christi, TX, Long Beach, CA, Defiance, OH, Fremont, OH, Tooele, UT, Chambersburg, PA, and Fort Myers, FL, where they resided from 1975-2005. In May of 2005 they returned to Utah to be near family in Salt Lake City. While residing in Florida they managed a hotel on Sanibel Island and apartments in Fort Myers, FL. They purchased a home in Fort Myers and enjoyed retirement for many years. Bill was a member of many golf leagues. He and Ruth enjoyed Square Dancing and his favorite sport was swimming. He received the Presidential Sports Award in 1976 for swimming. At the age of 80 he could still swim 40 lengths of his pool. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Legion. Bill was quick to smile and a very gentle man who liked to laugh. He will be sadly missed by many family members and friends. His ashes will be interred at Riverside Cemetery in Defiance, OH. At his request, some of his ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean in honor of his service in the Pacific for the United Sates Navy.
